How does saliva detect pregnancy? During pregnancy your body produces hCG — a hormone that enters the bloodstream and appears in both urine and saliva. The U-Test Lollipop uses a clinically validated immunoassay to detect the presence of hCG in your saliva, giving you an accurate result without the need for a urine sample.
How to use the U-Test Lollipop — step by step
Remove from packaging
Open the foil pouch and remove the lollipop test. Do not eat or drink for at least 10 minutes before testing for best results.
Place in your mouth
Put the test end of the lollipop in your mouth and allow it to collect a saliva sample for the time stated in the instructions.
Remove and lay flat
Remove the lollipop and lay it on a flat, clean surface. Do not shake or tilt during this stage.
Read your result
Wait the indicated time and read your result. Two lines = pregnant. One line = not pregnant. Read within the result window for accuracy.
Who is this rapid test kit for?
Understanding your result
Not pregnant (negative): One line appears. hCG was not detected in your saliva. If your period is late and you receive a negative result, test again in a few days — hCG levels rise quickly in early pregnancy and may not yet be detectable.
Pregnant (positive): Two lines appear. hCG has been detected, indicating pregnancy. Even a faint second line counts as a positive result. We recommend confirming with your GP or midwife as soon as possible to begin your antenatal care.
Invalid result: If no line appears in the control region, the test has not functioned correctly. Please use a new test.
When should I test? For the most accurate result, test from the first day of your missed period. Testing earlier is possible but hCG levels may not yet be high enough to detect. Morning testing is not required with a saliva test.

Can anything affect the result?
Eating, drinking, or brushing your teeth shortly before testing may affect saliva composition. We recommend waiting at least 30 minutes before testing. Some medications that contain hCG can also produce a positive result — check with your doctor if unsure.
What if I get a faint second line?
Any visible second line — even a faint one — should be considered a positive result. If you're unsure, test again in 48 hours, as hCG levels double approximately every two days in early pregnancy.
Do I need to test in the morning?
Unlike some urine tests, the U-Test Lollipop does not require a first morning sample. You can test at any time of day, as hCG is present in saliva throughout the day once pregnancy is established.
